Hello, Summer.

2016’s first day of summer is off to a great start with a good soaking rain this evening.  We’ve been having sporadic showers this weekend, but not a heavy rain like this and its given me time to update.  Though I haven’t been blogging lately, I have been taking pictures.  So hold on to your butts.

And done til I get more beer bottles

This was my first time mulching.  I have avoided it solely for looks as I much prefer looking at black soil.  However….since this bed is bad for the weeds and grass, mulched it was.  Even did the other side.

In the first picture above you may have noticed some white plastic bags.  In those plastic bags are all my raw food scraps and egg shells.  Felt like there were about eight bags.  The smell was gag worthy and of course I got some on my hands…

Mulched til I ran out of dirt

Harvesting as been slow yet steady.  There’s been bean, cuke, and cherry tomato, and zucchini pickings so far.  Everything that was stunted is showing signs of improvement, so I’m very optimistic with the whole garden.  Even the flowers…

That particular sunflower is over 5 ft tall.  It’s the tallest one so far.

My favorite flower so far, the one I’ve been waiting ten years to see and smell, is the flower of the moon vine.  A Moon Flower.  It swirls open just before dusk.

Its smell reminds me of the beach.  Not only of the beach itself, but of sun tan lotion/sun block aromas, too.  Also, reminds me of jasmine.  It’s oh, so very nice.  I’m very pleased with the smell, but I’m very disappointed that each flower only blooms once.

Wine Bottle Alley is about halfway done.

And here are the pictures taken just now.  My complete garden.

Also, there’s these things everywhere and I don’t know what they are…

I planted lemon balm seeds in a few places, and these unknown plants are in a few places as well.  The leaves are fragrant, kinda citrus-y, so I was leaning toward lemon balm, however……this weekend I picked what I thought was a small oregano looking weed and just from milding disturbing it, the smell it emitted was so strong.  Very lemony.  I replanted it, but I don’t quite remember where and I haven’t seen it since 😦

I’m very curious….

Mid-Spring Garden of ’16

Oh!  And I picked some jalapenos.  They say to pick the first fruits when they’re ripe to stimulate growth.  Decided to pickle them whole…really need to get more mason jars…
